Theatre by the Bay proudly announces 2006 season

THE BEST REASON TO VISIT BARRIE THIS SUMMER: William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing and Clark Harris' Snow White's Summer Adventure

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Education Editor, Lifestyle Editor, Media Editor, News Editor BARRIE, ON,THEATRE BY THE BAY,PRESS RELEASE CENTRE--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 1, 2006) - Now entering their 5th season, Theatre by the Bay continues to bring world-class theatre to local and regional audiences. The 2006 season opens with William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing directed by Richard Rose and proudly sponsored by TD Canada Trust. Located at the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, this new venue offers a comfortable environment that will enrich the theatrical experience for all patrons.

Much Ado About Nothing was first published in 1600. It confluences two separate stories into one play: the enticement of Benedict and Beatrice into a proclamation of love, and the deception of Claudio into mistakenly thinking that Hero is unvirtuous. The play's style shares many features of the modern romantic comedy and it remains one of Shakespeare's most enduringly popular plays on stage with intrigue, fantasy and suspicion abound.

Theatre by the Bay possesses a determination to produce classic stories in exciting and innovative ways that appeal to as broad an audience as possible, presenting Much Ado About Nothing in a way that allows the audience to engage in Shakespeare's verbal delight.

Cast members from across Canada began rehearsals in early July for the company's main stage production. They include: Paul Braunstein as Dogberry; Alex Dault as Balthasar; John Dolan as Leonato; Philippa Domville as Beatrice; Lesley Faulkner as Hero; Nigel Hamer as Don Pedro; Thomas Hauff as Antonio; Paul Hopkins as Benedict; Kyle Horton as Claudio; Jason Jazrawy as Borachio; Sara Moyle as Margaret; Morgan Jones as Conrade and Brendan Murray as Don John. The Opening Night gala celebration will be held Saturday August 12th, 2006 at 8:00 pm, and tickets are $35 per person. Regular ticket prices are $17 for children up to 13 years, $22 for adults and $20 for seniors. The performances run from August 10th to September 2nd.

Wellington West Capital Inc. is our title sponsor for the Young Company's production of Clark Harris' Snow White's Summer Adventure. This is a magical story, which includes audience participation and a chance to meet and greet the cast after the show, all of whom are local actors from the city of Barrie. Performances run from August 13th to September 2nd. Tickets are $8 for adults and children and $6 for groups of ten or more.
