Their Excellencies to Bid Farewell to Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Calgary

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 7, 2011) - As the 2011 Royal Tour of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge comes to an end, Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston will travel to Calgary, Alberta, to bid farewell to the Royal Couple on their official departure from Canada, on Friday, July 8, 2011.

In addition, Their Excellencies will also attend key events, including the Government of Canada Reception, the Calgary Stampede Opening Parade, the Official Departure Ceremony from Canada and Alberta, and the Queen Elizabeth II Cup Presentation at Spruce Meadows.

Government of Canada Reception

In honour of Their Royal Highnesses, Their Excellencies will attend a reception hosted by the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, and Mrs. Laureen Harper. During this reception, Canadian country artist Paul Brandt and the Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede dancers will perform. The event will conclude with remarks from the Prime Minister and from His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge.

Calgary Stampede Opening Parade

Their Excellencies, along with the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper, will attend the opening parade, which will be officially launched by Their Royal Highnesses.

Official Departure Ceremony from Alberta and Canada

The province of Alberta and the Government of Canada will host a ceremony to bid farewell to Their Royal Highnesses. Their Excellencies, along with the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper, will be joined by Their Honours, Col. (Ret'd) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, and Mrs. Linda M. Ethell; the Honourable Ed Stelmach, Premier of Alberta, and Mrs. Marie Stelmach; General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, and Mrs. Leslie Natynczyk; and Mr. William J. S. Elliott, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Mrs. Carolyn Elliott at the Calgary Rotary Challenger Park to welcome Their Royal Highnesses.

Their Royal Highnesses, accompanied by Their Excellencies, the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper, will proceed to the Kin Canada mural, Portraits of Honour, which features a portrait of every Canadian soldier who died during his or her service in Afghanistan. As commander-in-chief of Canada, His Excellency will provide an overview of the significance of the mural and invite Their Royal Highnesses to lay a wreath. The ceremony will conclude with a 21-gun salute and the inspection of a guard of honour by His Royal Highness.

On May 29, 2011, the Governor General unveiled the Kin Canada mural, Portraits of Honour, at a ceremony in Kitchener, Ontario. The mural, created by Cambridge-based artist David Sopha, has embarked on a cross-Canada tour with stops in the hometowns of each of the fallen soldiers. Queen Elizabeth II Cup Presentation

Their Excellencies, along with the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper, will attend the Queen Elizabeth II Cup Day at Spruce Meadows, which features the finest show jumping horses and riders in the world. Their Excellencies will arrive by landau and will be greeted by the Prime Minister and Mrs. Harper. Prior to the horse competition, the Governor General will receive the Viceregal Salute and conduct an inspection of a guard of honour. This will be followed by a "feu de joie" rifle salute and two march pasts. After the main event, His Excellency will present the Queen Elizabeth II Cup to this year's winner.
