Their Excellencies to Take Part in 400th Anniversary Celebrations in the City of Quebec on July 3

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 2, 2008) - Their Excellencies, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond will attend a number of activities and celebrations in the City of Quebec on Thursday, July 3, 2008, to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city.

Thursday, July 3

Salute to Champlain Ceremony

Samuel de Champlain Monument, Dufferin Terrace

10:00 a.m.

Their Excellencies will attend the Salute to Champlain ceremony, during which hundreds of bells will ring out in unison across the country to commemorate the official arrival of the great explorer. For this formal ceremony marking the founding of the City of Quebec, which will be followed by a military parade, the Governor General will deliver a speech.

Luncheon hosted by the Mayor of the City of Quebec

Chateau Frontenac

1:00 p.m.

Their Excellencies will attend a luncheon hosted by the Mayor of the City of Quebec, Mr. Regis Labeaume, at the Chateau Frontenac.

Encounters: The Commemorative Show

Place de l'Assemblee-Nationale

3:30 p.m.

Their Excellencies will attend Encounters: The Commemorative Show, at the Place de l'Assemblee-Nationale, featuring Samuel de Champlain, will recount the 400-year history of the City of Quebec through ten impressionist and musical tableaux.

Dinner hosted by the Premier of Quebec

Espace Dalhousie

7:30 p.m.

At the invitation of the Premier of Quebec, Mr. Jean Charest, Their Excellencies will attend a dinner in honour of the 400th anniversary of the City of Quebec and of the Prime Minister of the French Republic, His Excellency Francois Fillon.
