Their Excellencies to Host a Fall Celebration at the Citadelle of Quebec

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 3, 2013) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston invite the public to join them at the Residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Québec for a Fall Celebration, an event highlighting the benefits of physical activity and the bounty of the harvest season, on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

"Once again this year, Sharon and I are pleased to invite visitors of all ages to discover the Citadelle and its grounds at the Fall Celebration," said His Excellency. "This is also an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors by taking part in a variety of sports activities, which promote a healthy and active lifestyle."

In addition to tours inside the res idence, culinary demonstrations will be held in the Ballroom. Those in attendance will be able to taste pickled beets prepared by the chefs of the official residence and have the opportunity to learn some of the finer points of dining etiquette and the art of table setting. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Canadian Honours System and to hear the stories of Canadians who have been recognized for their extraordinary achievements. There will also be a number of colourful examples of coats of arms and other emblems to mark the 25th anniversary of the Canadian Heraldic Authority.

Various kiosks set up outside the residence will offer young and old alike a chance to meet with sports enthusiasts and to take part in sports demonstrations. Children will be able to test their physical skills on an obstacle course designed by the members of the Royal 22e Régiment. Wheelchair basketball, ultimate frisbee, biathlon, curling, and Irish dancing will be amongst the featured sports and activities. Champion, the official mascot of the Remparts de Québec junior hockey team, will also be at the event. Snacks and apple cider will be served.

All Fall Celebration activities are free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation as parking at the Citadelle is limited and only available on a first-come,
first-served basis.
