Third Generation of Nivis' Smart Object Platform Fuels the Internet of Things (IoT) Revolution

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Sep 10, 2014) - Nivis, a global leader in Smart Grid and Industrial Wireless networking, today announced the availability of the third generation of its Smart Object Platform. This platform, which targets monitoring and control devices, is a fusion of firmware, hardware, and software that allows integrators to build products that are seamlessly and transparently part of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The Smart Object Platform is a secure, application-agnostic, 6lowpan and IPv6-compliant solution that is standards-based for cross-vendor interoperability. The platform was designed to provide prioritized data delivery, enhanced RPL based routing support, support for power source diversity, and other features to support both monitoring and control. Highly scalable, the platform allows for the deployment of networks consisting of thousands of Smart Objects, resulting in minimal infrastructure cost overhead. IEEE 802.15.4g/e-based wireless communication provides extended range, unsurpassed reliability, and robustness to interference.

With this new release, the Smart Object Platform adds enhanced multi-layer end-to-end security with symmetric and asymmetric cryptography and certificate-based authentication. Support for multiple levels of priority-based traffic flows enables a broad variety of applications to use the same network. Communication profiles accommodate a wide variety of application requirements and performance metrics, and PANA/EAP-based authentication supports interoperability.

"The emerging Internet of Things will have a profound impact on the way we live and the way we do business," said Doug Johns, CEO of Nivis."The Smart Object platform was designed to make it easier for vendors to create products that will be a part of the Internet of Things."

By accommodating both line- and battery-operated Smart Objects, the platform targets a wide variety of applications ranging from Smart Metering (electric, water, and gas), Smart Lighting, and Smart City applications to environmental and agricultural monitoring and control.
