SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 12, 2013) - The Ontario SPCA is seeking information regarding a box of rabbits left at the side of Kukagami Lake Road in Wahnapitae, Ontario.
On April 4, 2013, the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Branch received a call in which the caller stated six rabbits were running loose.
On April 7, six adult male domestic rabbits were brought into the Ontario SPCA Sudbury & District Branch. Five of the rabbits were shorthaired rabbits; one a longhaired rabbit. The long haired rabbit was severely matted; all rabbits had severe fecal matter and urine stuck to them; all rabbits had severe ear mites and sores; one rabbit was missing half of its ear and all their nails were overgrown.
On April 11, seven more rabbits were found in the same location. Ontario SPCA officers brought them to the Sudbury and District Branch to receive the care they require.
All 13 rabbits are currently under veterinary care.
"Every pet owner or caregiver is responsible to ensure the appropriate care of their animal. If providing this care becomes a challenge, it is important that steps are taken to prevent any unnecessary suffering or neglect of an animal," said Lynn Michaud, Senior Inspector.
