Thirty-One Percent of Brad's Deals Shoppers Will Make a New Year's Resolution, According to Survey

Deal Site Offers Expertise on How to Keep Resolutions and Insight Into Why Some Fail

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - December 29, 2014) - Shoppers have spoken on the subject of New Year's resolutions: In a recent survey from Brad's Deals, the deal curators that post the best deals from across the web every day, 31% of shoppers will make a New Year's resolution, and 35% are undecided.

The majority of resolutions are centered around personal health. Below are the five most common resolutions among Brad's Deals users.

·  Lose weight: 22.92%
·  Get fit: 18.97%
·  Eat healthier: 12.25%
·  Save money: 9.49%
·  Manage stress: 7.51%

Though it may sound encouraging that a good segment of people are looking to improve themselves in 2015, the reality is that only 8% of all New Year's resolutions succeed. That's according to a study from the University of Scranton.

"While it might seem inevitable that resolutions fail, it's really not," said Rebecca Lehmann, a marketing manager at Brad's Deals. "You can increase your odds of succeeding by setting a defined, realistic resolution and holding yourself accountable. For some, this means investing in your resolution by purchasing something that helps you toward your goal."

Part of Brad's Deals' blueprint to a successful resolution includes setting SMART goals, keeping friends and family up to date on your progress, and purchasing something that gives you an excuse to stick to your resolution, like a fitness tracker or budgeting app for your smartphone.

One tip for a successful resolution is setting a goal that's specific. An example of this is saying "my resolution is to lose 20 pounds this year" instead of the equivocal "I want to lose weight." Another is to make it something you're passionate about. Choosing something you care about gives you a better chance at following through.
