This November 17 Arcelor Mittal Canada Mines Awards Tribute Trophies to Two Distinguished Municipal Leaders, Victor M Power, and Fernand Trahan

As Part of the IDNR-TV's 2011 Mining Film Festival

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2011) - ARCELOR MITTAL CANADA MINES and the IDNR-TV's MINING FILM FESTIVAL will award trophies to honour two of Quebec and Ontario's outstanding elected officials: Victor M. Power, Mayor of Timmins, from 1980 to 2000 and Fernand Trahan, Mayor of Val d'Or, Quebec since November, 2000.

This was reported today by ARCELOR MITTAL CANADA MINES' Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Éric Tétreault and IDNR-TV's anchor, Mr. Alexandre Dumas, who indicated that the festival's promoter, IDNR-TV, and ARCELOR MITTAL CANADA MINES wish to acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by these regional leaders in building bridges and fostering cooperation between two communities that are central to the development of natural resources and the local mining industry.

As the mayor of Timmins from 1980 to 2000 and from 2003 to 2006, Victor M. Power has profoundly influenced the growth and development of his city and its region, earning him the honour of his induction to the Order of Canada.

As the mayor of Val d'Or for 9 years, and Prefect of the MRC de la Vallée de l'Or, Fernand Trahan was re-elected for a third term in November 2009, and was one of the originators of several significant regional initiatives including the establishment of the Northern Mining Transit Centre.

By building on favourable terms in an era of development in the mining industry in their regions, these two leaders have strengthened their local economies, and positioned their regional identity with a distinct cultural character, paving the way for a better future for their citizens: thousands of students, youths and adults, can now shape their futures in their respective communities.

CERTIFICATES OF RECOGNITION TO 5 OTHER ELECTED OFFICIALS

In the process, ARCELOR MITTAL CANADA MINES will also award (5) Certificates of Recognition to elected local leaders that were either actively involved in the growth of their local economies, or in the integration of their fellow citizens into local business and industrial development.

The current mayor of Timmins and the first magistrate of Malartic, Tom Laughren and André Vézeau will be among the main guests of honour at the Festival, as will the mayors of Port-Cartier and Fermont on the Quebec North Shore, and Laurence Methot and Lise Pelletier who worked tirelessly to revive their respective municipalities' economic and cultural lives. In addition, Mr. David Aksawnee, Mayor of Baker Lake, a small community in the territory of Nunavut of 1728 inhabitants will be honoured for his passionate work in developing significant ties between mining industry and the Inuit community.

The "COUP DE COEUR" Trophy will be awarded this year for the first time. The recipient will be the mining company OSISKO, in recognition of its spectacular launch and production of its project, "Canadian Malartic" in Malartic, Abitibi, which is a milestone in Quebec's era of natural resource development. The Trophy will be awarded jointly to: Mr. Sean Roosen, President and CEO, and the project's inspiring founder; and Mr. Robert Wares, Vice President, Director of Exploration and resource development, the project's initiator.

A Special Recognition Award

Finally, a Special Recognition Award will be presented to Mr. Jack Blacksmith, President and CEO of CREECO, a CREE community holding company which owns and operates several companies: CREE Construction and Development, ADC Management, Valpiro, and the most visible and well known CREE business property: Air Creebec. All of these businesses have as their objective the creation and maintenance of jobs for the various CREE communities, while maximizing business strategies for the benefit of self-reliance of such communities.

For ARCELOR MITTAL CANADA MINES, these TRIBUTE Trophies and certificates of recognition, such as the "COUP DE COEUR" Trophy represent an initiative that fits naturally in its growing Olympic spirit that has led the company to become a partner of the 2012 London Olympic Games, where a leader's efforts are honoured and rewarded as exceptional achievements.
