This Spring: High-Spirited Salsa in Montreal

The 2008 Montreal Salsa Convention will be held April 16 - 20, with a focus on broadening its base

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 19, 2007) - From April 16 - 20, Montreal will be hosting more than 5000 salseros, including dancers, instructors, choreographers, musicians and DJs from Montreal, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Paris, Bermuda and Portugal, who will all be attending the fourth annual Montreal Salsa Convention (www.montrealsalsaconvention.com). This year the organizers want to bring salsa to a wider audience and will be offering a special Introduction to Salsa class before the opening tribute to Tito Puente, on April 19, at Metropolis.

"In every city where we have taught and performed, there has been a single constant: judgements and prejudices fall away when you dance the salsa," says Sonia Kyriacou, director of the Montreal Salsa Convention. "People who dance the salsa are citizens of the world; they make no distinctions as to culture, race or religion."

Among the international figures attending the convention this year are Eddie Torres "The Mambo King," DJ Henry Knowles and Angel Melendez and his 15-musician orchestra.
