Thomas Nelson Forms Grupo Nelson Spanish Division

NASHVILLE, TN -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 15, 2005 -- Thomas Nelson Publishers (NYSE: TNM) today announced the formation of Grupo Nelson, a Spanish-language division. Five Spanish-language book imprints have been created, each falling under the umbrella of Grupo Nelson and each specializing in a different topic or series of topics. They are: Editorial Diez Puntos, specializing in books on parenting and family, personal finance, health and fitness, self-help and popular culture; Leader Latino, specializing in books on business and leadership; Editorial Caribe, specializing in Bibles, biblical reference and electronic religious products; Editorial Betania, focusing on inspirational, popular religious and children's books; and Editorial Catolica, specializing in Catholic books and Bibles.

The name change and new imprints are a result of Thomas Nelson's Spanish division -- formerly named Caribe-Betania -- planning to double its staff within the next year and increase the number of titles that it publishes from 65 to 80. "We've seen rapid growth in the Spanish book market, and we anticipate that by increasing the breadth of our Spanish titles, we will be able to venture into new Spanish-speaking markets around the world as well as sell more books to our current customers," said Thomas Nelson's Chief Publishing Officer Tami Heim. "We also plan to release many high-profile books simultaneously in both English and Spanish, which should boost sales significantly."

Larry Downs, vice president and publisher of Grupo Nelson, said Grupo Nelson will become a major player in the Spanish book market due to its expanded reach and larger staff. "With a larger staff and aggressive publishing plan -- including publishing major titles in Spanish and English Simultaneously -- we will reach more of the Spanish-speaking world with products that teach, inform and inspire," Downs said. "By putting significant resources behind Grupo Nelson, it's apparent that Thomas Nelson values the Spanish-speaking market and recognizes its importance and influence throughout the world."
