Thomas Weisel Partners Adds Team of Senior Healthcare Bankers

Team Led by Industry Veteran Brent Milner Doubles the Coverage Effort

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 9, 2005 -- Thomas Weisel Partners (TWP), an investment bank focused on the growth sectors of the economy, announced that a team of five senior healthcare bankers, led by Brent Milner, has joined the firm. Mr. Milner, formerly the Director of Healthcare Banking at Deutsche Bank Securities, has joined TWP as a Partner and the Director of Healthcare Banking.

This new team joins one of Wall Street's largest and most comprehensive investment banking practices focused on growth companies in the consumer, healthcare, industrial, media & telecommunications and technology sectors. Within the healthcare sector in 2004, TWP completed 26 transactions and was the fourth most active underwriter of IPOs, in terms of number of deals completed. In 2005, the firm has completed 14 transactions including lead- or sole-managed financings for Allion Healthcare, Inc., CBL Path Inc., Depomed, Inc. and Sirna Therapeutics, Inc. The team recently advised Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation on its $2.8 billion pending acquisition of Inamed Corporation.

Team Backgrounds

Brent Milner joins TWP as a Partner and Director of the Healthcare Banking team in the New York office. Mr. Milner was formerly with Deutsche Bank where he headed up the Healthcare Investment Banking Group. Mr. Milner has 15 years of healthcare investment banking experience. Prior to joining Alex. Brown & Sons in 1994, Mr. Milner worked at Robertson Stephens & Company in the healthcare group. Mr. Milner earned his BS degree from University of Illinois.

Stephen Blumenreich joins TWP as a Principal in the New York office. Mr. Blumenreich joins from Deutsche Bank where he was a member of the healthcare group for six years. Previously, Mr. Blumenreich worked for Robertson Stephens & Company and Salomon Brothers. Mr. Blumenreich earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Shawn Cross joins TWP as a Principal in the New York office. Mr. Cross joins from Deutsche Bank where he was a member of the healthcare group for eight years. Prior to joining Alex. Brown & Sons in 1997, Mr. Cross conducted cancer research at the University of Washington Medical School. Mr. Cross earned a BS degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Wesley Smith joins TWP as a Principal in the New York office. Mr. Smith joins from Deutsche Bank where he was a member of the healthcare group for five years. Prior to joining Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, he held senior business development positions at two healthcare services companies and worked in the healthcare investment banking group at JPMorgan. Mr. Smith earned a BA degree from Hobart College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

David Stubbs joins TWP as a Principal in the New York office. Mr. Stubbs joins from Deutsche Bank where he was a member of the healthcare group for two years. Previously, he was in the healthcare banking groups at Salomon Smith Barney and Cowen & Company. Prior to joining the banking industry, Mr. Stubbs worked in the healthcare services industry for several years. Mr. Stubbs earned a BS degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
