Thomas Weisel Partners Hires New Consumer Senior Investment Banker

Michelle Cherrick Named Partner and Co-Director of Consumer Investment Banking

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 20, 2006 -- Thomas Weisel Partners Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: TWPG), an investment bank focused on the growth sectors of the economy, announced that Michelle Cherrick will re-join the firm as a Partner and Co-Director of Consumer Investment Banking based in San Francisco. Ms. Cherrick was formerly a Managing Director in the Consumer and Retail Investment Banking Group at Wachovia Securities.

Ms. Cherrick will join one of Wall Street's premiere investment banking practices focused on growth companies in the consumer, healthcare, and technology sectors. Within the consumer sector, TWP has completed more than 20 transactions since the beginning of 2004, including lead managed financings for clients including Ace Cash Express, Cache, Caribou Coffee, Coinstar, Collectors Universe, Collegiate Pacific, Crocs, NutriSystems, and United Auto Group. The firm also advised Chalone Wine Group on its $261 million sale to Diageo North America and JR Wood Inc. on its $166 million sale to Dole Food Company.

Michelle Cherrick will join Thomas Weisel Partners from Wachovia Securities where she was a Managing Director in the Consumer and Retail Group. Previously, Ms. Cherrick was the Head of the Consumer Groups at both SG Cowen and Robertson, Stephens, as well as a key member of the Consumer Groups at TWP and Montgomery Securities. Ms. Cherrick graduated from Georgetown University and received an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Michelle will start at TWP in the San Francisco office on March 30, 2006.
