Thomson Extends Reach of Digital Technology From Network to Home

BERLIN, September 2, 2005 - With more than a quarter million people expected to experience the latest in home entertainment technology this week in Berlin, Thomson (Euronext Paris 18453) (NYSE: TMS) is announcing a series of new products that extend the reach of broadcasters, network operators, and other entertainment providers into the living room of millions of European viewers and music fans. At Stand 201 in Hall 21B of the Messe Berlin, Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) visitors will see wide range of new products highlighted at Thomson Digitown - an innovative showcase of the emerging world of mobile and in-home digital entertainment.

With new products based on Thomson's established expertise in broadband, Internet Protocol devices, and wireless digital transmission, the Group is featuring its latest range of new products in a series of at-home and at-play environments. Customers and consumers will mingle in Thomson Digitown to find the latest products that will bring digital entertainment and information to their desktops, living rooms, and mobile lifestyles.

Access Platforms & Gateways Unveils Unique Solutions

A Unique Mobile Set-Top Box

For terrestrial operators and customers alike, Thomson is unveiling a remarkable mobile set-top box innovation that allows for the reception of digital video and audio signals, while on the move. This groundbreaking system functions as a regular set-top box, as a portable system for use in the home or elsewhere, and as a crystal-clear, personal picture and sound system for use in cars, buses and other mobile environments. Small enough to be carried in a coat pocket, the new mobile set-top box will be available in the UK, Australia, France, Germany and Italy in early 2006.

An Innovative Voice Over IP DECT Telephone

A new product aimed at Telco operators will be Thomson's Ethernet Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) DECT telephone that does not require interface with a computer for VoIP digital telephone service. Introduced by the recently acquired Inventel group that is now part of Thomson's VoIP business unit, the EV5203-C DECT VoIP telephone offers telco operators and service provides a wealth of advanced features such as multiple voice over IP (VoIP) lines from a single handset base, for their residential customers.

Connectivity Launches Bluetooth Lineup, In-Air Computer Command, Wireless High-Definition Content Streaming

"Consumers want mobile capability for their entertainment, and they're asking for wireless solutions," said Michael O'Hara, Executive Vice President of Thomson's Connectivity Business Unit. "To meet this demand, Thomson is delivering its first Bluetooth- enabled accessories, a Gyration Cordless Optical Mouse, and a unique WiFi set-top box that streams high-definition photos from PC to high-definition display."

A New Line of Wireless Bluetooth Accessories

Underscoring its commitment to incorporate wireless home networking technology across multiple product categories, the new line of THOMSON wireless Bluetooth®-enabled accessories designed for maximum performance, flexibility and interoperability with home and portable entertainment and mobile communications devices. Included in the line-up are eight new headsets, transmitters and receivers for mobile, car and home applications.

The Next Generation Of In-Air Computer Command

The next generation Gyration brand consumer peripherals featuring patented radio and gyroscope technology make it easier and more intuitive for consumers to interact with digital content in traditional office and converging home entertainment environments. Whether surfing the web, perfecting computer golf games or making a business presentation, the new Gyration GO 2.4GHz Cordless Optical Air Mouse lets consumers use natural hand movements to operate the mouse, resulting in increased mobility, ability to control multiple applications with ease from any position and greatly reduced repetitive strain often resulting from traditional desktop mice.

Wi-Fi High Definition Digital MediaBridge

The THOMSON Digital MediaBridge is a new set-top home networking receiver that seamlessly distributes music, movies and photos from the personal computer to the high-definition television through fast wireless or wired connections. An ideal accessory for the main viewing room of the home, the THOMSON Digital MediaBridge features Wi-Fi capability for digital photos and can also securely distribute high-definition video images from the PC to a high- definition display.

Three easy steps are all it takes to move your favorite music from CD to a portable digital music player with the two new bookshelf Thomson Digital Music Studio Systems that offer the ability to easily transfer music from CD directly to a built-in portable mp3 player.

The second-generation THOMSON Lyra Audio/Video Jukebox PDP2862 is ideal for consumers who want all of their audio, video, photo, and computer files in one small palm-sized portable device. The 20GB hard drive can record and store hundreds of digital music files, thousands of JPEG format photographic images and up to 80 hours of MPEG-4 quality video recorded directly from TV, cable, satellite decoder, or a PC (via high-speed USB 2.0 connection). Two new THOMSON audio Micro Jukeboxes offer storage and playback for up to 170 hours of music on 5GB hard-disc drives, yet the new introductions are so small that they can hide behind a typical business card.

Hard-Disc DVD Recorders

Among the four new models of THOMSON DVD recorders are two models that feature spacious hard disc drives enabling easy Picture-in- Picture Live TV during video playback from the HDD and DVD, time shifting, live TV pause, and archiving of favorite TV programming. A huge 160GB hard drive permits the THOMSON Scenium DTH8550E to record and store up to 240 hours of video and stunning playback is assured with the HDMI connection. The new THOMSON DTH8540E DVD Recorder with a 80GB hard drive can accommodate up to 120 hours of TV programming.
