Barcelona, Spain - February 13, 2006 - Thomson (Euronext 18453; NYSE: TMS) today showcases its fixed-mobile convergence solutions for both enterprise and residential markets as well as its end-to-end mobile TV solutions at 3GSM 2006, Barcelona, Spain. The company's enhanced telecoms and broadcast offering dedicated to mobile applications serves to underpin the Group's Two-Year Plan intentions to broaden its offering to its media and entertainment client base and lead in IP devices and solutions.

"With technological innovation at the heart of our efforts and mobile communications and entertainment entering a new era of development, the 3GSM World Congress is the ideal forum for Thomson to demonstrate its latest line-up of solutions tailored to address the ever-evolving needs of our telecom operator and broadcaster client base", says Ghislain Lescuyer, Senior Executive Vice President in charge of the Systems & Equipment Division at Thomson. "With the recent acquisition of Thales Broadcast & Multimedia, and our Next Generation Networks product suite, Thomson is even more strongly positioned to provide industry-leading end-to-end mobile and IP content delivery solutions."

Pioneering Fixed-Mobile Convergence Offering

Blurring the distinction between operators' traditional organisational boundaries, fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) enables the delivery of seamless services over a combination of fixed broadband and mobile networks. At the forefront of this technology evolution, Thomson has developed a suite of FMC solutions that target both enterprise and residential markets.

- Enterprise Solutions

A technology which removes the need for dedicated equipment such as key systems or Private Branch Exchanges (PBXs) on customer premises, IP Centrex allows operators and service providers to deliver better services to corporate customers at a lower cost, while increasing their margins. With the launch of fixed-mobile convergence capabilities for its Cirpack VoIP softswitch and IP Centrex platforms, Thomson is well positioned to enable its operator client base to promote advanced IP telephony and thus tap new revenue streams from enterprise markets. Mobile operators using Thomson's Cirpack IP Centrex platform can start marketing global telephony solutions, offering all the features of hosted PBX solutions, without forcing users to change their mobile handsets. The result is a single service with one phone number and one voicemail box shared by the customer's cellular and broadband IP phones. Cirpack's mobile IP Centrex application is currently deployed in trials with several GSM operators in Europe.

- Residential Solutions

Thomson's residential FMC platform, a solution for automatic handover of GSM to VoIP with existing mobile handsets designed specifically for a major operator in Europe, is also demonstrated at the show. The first quadruple-play gateway in the world, this FMC platform underpins Thomson's leadership in telecommunications solutions targeted at residential markets.

Unparalleled End-to-End Mobile TV Service Delivery Solutions

With technological innovation allowing mobile TV and video to become a pervasive part of our lives, the ability to provide solutions that help realise this access-independent era is crucial to operators and broadcasters. The extent of Thomson's end-to-end mobile video expertise is unique in the industry. Spanning activities such as content preparation, encoding, service delivery platforms through to decoding, Thomson's ability to enable its operator and broadcaster customer base to exploit the true potential of the burgeoning mobile TV market is unparalleled. Currently involved in 15 different mobile TV trials worldwide, including large-scale projects, in Europe, the US and Asia, Thomson's industry-proven solution is underpinned by H.264 technology for superior quality live TV on the go.

Conscious of its customers' need for scalable, flexible and standards-based solutions, Thomson's mobile TV offering supports multiple standards (DVB-H, DMB, MediaFLO, 3G, and others) and is agnostic in terms of the mobile devices to which the multimedia content can be delivered.

Following its recent acquisition of Thales Broadcast & Multimedia (TBM), Thomson has added further mobile video technologies to its solutions portfolio. The 3GSM World Congress will see the demonstration of feature-rich technologies for the delivery of live broadcasting to mobile devices compliant with the DVB-H standard. These comprise SmartVision Mobility™, a mobile TV service platform providing a full range of mobile TV services management through to Electronic Service Guide (ESG), and SmartCast Mobility™, a mobile TV headend system for the preparation and transmission of live TV bouquets and on-demand content to mobile receivers.

Together SmartVision Mobility™ and SmartCast Mobility™ offer a complete solution for broadcasting live content over mobile networks. With industry-proven experience, Thomson is firmly establishing a leadership position in a market which merges two of the most influential technologies in the electronic age: mobility and broadcast TV.

3GSM World Congress, Fira de Barcelona, runs from February Monday 13th through to Thursday 16th inclusive.
