ThoughtWorks and CAST to Host Dinner Forum on Agile Development and Technical Debt

Experts in Agile Development and Software Quality Discuss How to Quantify Agility via Technical Debt and Address Important Issues About Reducing Technical Debt

NEW YORK, NY and CHICAGO, IL and SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2011) -  ThoughtWorks, Inc., a pioneer in Agile-based systems development, and CAST, Inc., the worldwide leader in software analysis and measurement, will co-host a dinner forum this evening, February 17, titled, "Straight Talk about Technical Debt in Agile" to discuss the impact of Technical Debt in Agile Development. The dinner forum, which will run in conjunction with the Forrester Enterprise Architecture Forum, will be held at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco from 6-8 p.m. PST.

The Gartner Group reported recently that Technical Debt -- the cost of maintaining and repairing software issues that could have been addressed in the build stage -- is increasing at an extremely rapid rate and will reach $1 Trillion worldwide by 2015. As more and more businesses begin to adopt Agile methods of development, Agile practitioners have raised the issues of quality and Technical Debt and their impact on responsiveness and financial results.

"Straight Talk about Technical Debt in Agile" will focus on how to define and quantify Technical Debt and its impact on an organization's ability to deliver software over time. In particular, it will address important issues about Technical Debt, namely how much is too little or too much, and also provide a pragmatic approach to debt stabilization and reduction. Leading the discussion are experts in the fields of Agile Development and Technical Debt, Jim Highsmith of ThoughtWorks, Inc. and Jitendra Subramanyam of CAST, Inc.:

  • Jim Highsmith, executive consultant, ThoughtWorks, Inc.: Winner of the prestigious JOLT Award, he is co-author of the Agile Manifesto, a regular keynote speaker at industry events and a prolific author of some of the most influential books on Agile methodologies, including Agile Project Management: Creating Innovative Products (Addison Wesley 2009), Agile Software Development Ecosystems (Addison-Wesley, 2002), and Adaptive Software Development: A Collaborative Approach to Managing Complex Systems (Dorset House, 2000).
  • Jitendra Subramanyam, director of product strategy and research, CAST, Inc.: Author of an upcoming book on software quality as well as a number of articles on enterprise software development topics ranging from ERP to Agile, Subramanyam is responsible for helping to develop and grow the ecosystem of IT service providers who benefit from integrating CAST into their operations, governance and process improvement programs.
