Thousands Make Their Way to St. Joseph's Oratory

Pilgrims are preparing for the 87th novena

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 6, 2008) - From March 6 to March 14, thousands of pilgrims from all regions will gather at St.Joseph's Oratory to attend the 87th novena to St. Joseph. This year's theme is "You Give Us the Living Bread." Guest preachers are Father Bernard Lacroix, c.s.c. and Sister Denise Lamarche c.n.d.

Pilgrims from Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick, from the United States, Latin America and Europe will be coming to the Oratory. The rector, Father Claude Grou c.s.c. writes, "These nine days of common prayer are without doubt the most important time of the year at the shrine on Mount Royal. People from everywhere converge on the Oratory to celebrate their faith and to offer up to their patron their joys, their troubles, and their worries in complete confidence."

More than 100 groups expected

Visitor and Pilgrim Services is expecting the visit of more than one hundred groups for the novena and feast of St. Joseph,for which feast day had to be transferred to March 15 this year, because of Holy Week. Novena's Celebrations

In addition to the usual mass times (7:00 a.m., 8:30, 10:00, 11:30, 12:15 p.m., 4:30 in the crypt church) there will be a mass with special preaching each day at 2:00 p.m. in the basilica and 8:00 p.m. in the crypt church. The novena will culminate with the feast of St. Joseph patron of the Oratory and of Canada on Saturday, March 15. Three special celebrations are planned that day: at 10:00 a.m. with Bishop Gilles Lussier, bishop of the diocese of Joliettte; at 2:30 p.m. with Bishop Maurice Couture, bishop emeritus of Quebec city; and at 8 p.m. with Bishop Judes Saint-Antoine, auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Montreal. Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal (boy choir) will assist the singing at these masses with Philippe Belanger at the organ.
