CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - Mar 5, 2014) - Threadless, the global design community, today announced the winners of the Captain America Design Challenge, the latest design contest in partnership with Marvel. Given the success Threadless saw last year with other Marvel collections, artists worldwide were invited back to participate in the Captain America Design Challenge. Threadless opened the process for artists across the world to submit designs featuring Captain America characters and storylines, which were then voted upon and scored by the Threadless community in order to decide which designs would comprise the new collection of completely original Marvel t-shirts.
"We are always happy to see a design challenge resonating well with our community," said Jake Nickell, Threadless CEO. "Our partnership with Marvel has continuously provided the talented artists of the Threadless community with the opportunity to design for characters that get them excited and motivated to participate. The Captain America design challenge was no different."
The three Captain America t-shirts are part of a larger collection that features 78 designs chosen from 2,252 submissions, which include Spider-Man, Iron Man and other heroes from the Marvel universe. To date, Threadless maintains a community of 2.7 million artists and art enthusiasts, and has paid out $8,744,411 to more than 1,200 artists.
"Creating something that is validated by a legendary company like Marvel is a dream come true," says Patrick Zédouard of Taverny, France, whose design, "American Shooting Star," was chosen as part of the Captain America collection. "Thank you Threadless and Marvel for this opportunity, and for all the support. This is a huge motivation for me!"
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" hits theaters April 4, 2014, and the new Captain America collection is now available for purchase at https://www.threadless.com/marvel-superheroes/captain-america
