Three New Young Alouettes

Tony Akpan, Ronald Jones and Montrell Jones invited at 2007 camp

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Dec. 12, 2006) - Montreal Alouettes' Vice-President, General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp announced today that defensive end Tony Akpan, defensive back Ronald Jones and receiver Montrell Jones, all 24 years old, have signed contracts with the Alouettes.

Tony Akpan (6'6", 282 lbs.) attended the Alouettes' 2006 training camp. The defensive end played 34 games with the University of Hawaii between 2001 and 2005. He started four of 12 games played in 2005, made five tackles and one sack. He also blocked a field goal and a convert in college.

Ronald Jones (5'10", 188 lbs.) is a defensive back who started 18 of 44 games with Texas A & M from 2002 to 2005. During that span, he made a remarkable 158 tackles, two tackles for losses, one interception, one sack, four knockdowns and recovered two fumbles. He had his best year in 2003 with 91 tackles.

Montrell Jones (6', 199 lbs.) started his college career with Tennessee in 2002 before transferring to Louisville in 2004. In 2004 and 2005 with the Cardinals, Jones caught 80 passes for gains of 1,138 yards. He can also return punts.

All three players are expected at training camp in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu in May 2007.
