Three Rimouski-Neigette RCM Businesses Receive Financial Support From Government of Canada


RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Jan. 19, 2015) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Jacques Gourde, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, for Official Languages and for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that three businesses in the regional county municipality (RCM) of Rimouski-Neigette have been granted financial assistance to either acquire equipment, modernize their production facilities or carry out commercialization activities.

This support has been awarded in the form of three repayable financial contributions totalling $196,257 through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program (QEDP).

  • The recipients of this financial assistance from the Government of Canada are: Le Bien, Le Malt (9185-6567 Québec Inc.), Utopie MFG (9171-0772 Québec Inc.) and Nosotech Inc.
  • The contributions will, depending on the project, allow for the acquisition of production equipment, a plant expansion or the implementation of a market development strategy.

Promoter Contribution - Investment - Project Description
Utopie MFG (9171-0772 Québec Inc.) Repayable contribution of $104,000 on a total investment of $428,785.

Based in Saint-Narcisse-de-Rimouski, Utopie MFG was founded in 2006 and is the sole contract manufacturer of skis and snowboards in Quebec and one of the five North American manufacturers that occupy this niche. Its clients are brands specialized in the snowsport industry and most of its sales are in the United States.

The company's project is to increase its production capabilities and productivity by expanding and redesigning the existing plant and acquiring specialized production equipment.

The project will create four new jobs in the next two years.

Nosotech Inc. Repayable contribution of $65,450 on a total investment of $130,900.

Nosotech develops, markets and installs healthcare management software. Founded in Rimouski in 2006, the company's mission is to provide innovative data management solutions to healthcare providers and professionals in order to enhance efficiency, improve the quality of the care provided and reduce the incidence of diseases of public health importance. Nosotech has developed specialized software to monitor and control healthcare-associated or hospital-acquired infections. More recently, the company created software that optimizes the use of antibiotics.

Nosotech's project aims to help the company commercialize its software and enhance its access to new markets. The company intends to participate in relevant trade shows, produce promotional tools and hire external firms to assist in the commercialization process.

This projet is expected to result in the creation of three to five jobs over the next three years.

Le Bien, Le Malt (9185-6567 Québec Inc.) Repayable contribution of $26,807 on a total investment of $85,119.

Le Bien, Le Malt is a brewery located in downtown Rimouski which specializes in the manufacture of traditional ales from 100% Quebec malt. Founded in 2008, the company offers a selection of eight draft beers for consumption on the premises.

The project's goal is to increase the company's production capacity and productivity by acquiring a bottling line and redesigning its production space; this will enable the company to sell its bottled beer on the regional market.

In addition to making the brewery more competitive, this project is expected to create two jobs.
