Three T.B. Penick Associates Earn LEED AP Designations

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - March 5, 2009) - Three members of the pre-construction team at T.B. Penick & Sons, Inc. (TBP) have been certified as LEED Accredited Professionals® (LEED APs). Sandra Harle, S.E., Structural Engineering Manager; Gabrielle Kimbrell, Pre-construction Coordinator; and Tony Lee, Pre-construction Manager, all passed the LEED Professional Accreditation exam signifying their thorough understanding of green building principles and techniques as well as the LEED® Green Building Rating System.

Sandra Harle, S.E. has been in structural engineering for nearly 20 years. Prior to joining TBP in 2008, she was president of SEI Structural Engineers in Carlsbad, CA. Previous to that she held engineering management positions with GSSI Engineers, Burkett & Wong Engineers, Robert Fossatti Associates and Wong Hobach Lau. Gabrielle Kimbrell is a Pre-construction Coordinator and has been with the company since 2008 assisting the Pre-construction Manager and Estimators. Tony Lee, Pre-construction Manager, has been with TBP for over nine years as Project Manager/Pre-construction Manager. His responsibilities include pre-construction support for Design-Build projects with emphasis on streamlining field operations, optimizing critical path and cost reduction; and monitoring budgets and production on $170M worth of projects per year.

"Becoming a LEED AP will enable me to promote innovative and progressive design, employ environmentally responsible building technologies, and ultimately provide for a healthier built environment," notes Sandra Harle. "Environmentally friendly actions taken during planning and construction yield long-term benefits, including improvement of building quality, conservation of resources and reduction of waste."

LEED Professional Accreditation is a voluntary designation held by more than 60,000 individuals across the nation. The LEED AP credential indicates that holders have the knowledge and skills to facilitate the LEED certification process.

LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures. There are both environmental and financial benefits to earning LEED certification, as LEED-certified buildings have lower operating costs and greater asset value; generate less waste; conserve energy and water; are generally healthier and safer for occupants; produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions; qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives; and demonstrate an owner's commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
