Three York Region Students Win $500 From the York District CPA Awards

Winners Attend Bayview Secondary, St. Augustine Catholic and St. Elizabeth Catholic High Schools

YORK REGION, ON--(Marketwired - June 07, 2016) - Three York Region students are the winners of the twelfth annual York District CPA Awards and the $500 prize money that goes with each award. The York District Chartered Professional Accountants Association launched the York District CPA Award to give high school students considering a career as a Chartered Professional Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.

The winners are:

  • Betty Pu of Bayview Secondary School , Richmond Hill
  • Mariam Walaa of St. Augustine Catholic High School, Markham
  • Amanda Amoroso of St Elizabeth Catholic High School, Thornhill

Applicants for the York District CPA Award submitted an essay (maximum 300 words) on how the CPA designation would help them achieve success in the world of business. Winning entries demonstrated knowledge of the skills, attributes and attitudes required for success as a CPA. The essays were evaluated based on research demonstrated, creativity, spelling, grammar and effectiveness of writing style.

The top three students will receive a cheque for $500, formally presented by Andrew Seto, CPA, CMA, at a luncheon at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario's office in Toronto on Wednesday June 8.
