Three York Region Students Win $500 York District CPA Awards

Winners Attend Richmond Hill and Thornhill High Schools

YORK REGION, ON--(Marketwired - June 05, 2015) - Three York Region students are the winners of the eleventh annual York District CPA Awards and the $500 prize money that goes with each award. The York District Chartered Professional Accountants' Association launched the York District CPA Award to give high school students considering a career as a Chartered Professional Accountant the opportunity to compete, have fun and earn some cash prizes.

The winners are:

  • Cindy Huang of St. Elizabeth Catholic High School, Thornhill
  • Tara Spence of St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School, Richmond Hill
  • Thomas Chan of Richmond Hill High School

Applicants for the York District CPA Award submitted an essay (maximum 300 words) on how the CPA designation would help them achieve success in the world of business. Winning entries demonstrated knowledge of the skills, attributes and attitudes required for success as a CPA. The essays were evaluated based on research demonstrated, creativity, spelling, grammar and effectiveness of writing style.

The top three students will receive a cheque for $500 donated by the York District Chartered Professional Accountants' Association. The awards will be formally presented by Umair Tasadduq, CPA, CA, at a luncheon at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario's office in Toronto on Tuesday, June 9.
