Thunder Bay November Starts Ahead of 10 Year Average

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2011) - According to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the 18 single-detached starts in November, topped last November by eight units and were one unit ahead of the 10 year average in Thunder Bay for the month of November.

"We're still on track for a strong year in terms of total starts, as higher density construction has far outpaced last year. On their part, single-detached starts are gaining ground on last year's year-end total," stated Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst.

The 186 units of higher density housing started in the first eleven months of 2011 compares to only 18 units for the same period last year. The 366 total units started thus far in 2011 are 75 per cent higher when measured against the same period one year ago.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 65 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of high quality, environmentally sustainable and affordable housing solutions. CMHC also provides reliable, impartial and up-to-date housing market reports, analysis and knowledge to support and assist consumers and the housing industry in making informed decisions.
