Thunderbird Resorts Inc.: Fiesta Intercontinental Guatemala Re-Opens; Half Yearly Financial Report 2009 Filing Date Announced

PANAMA, REPUBLIC OF PANAMA--(Marketwire - Aug. 21, 2009) - Thunderbird Resorts Inc. ("Thunderbird" or "Group") (FRANKFURT:4TR)(EURONEXT:TBIRD) announces: On 3 August 2009, our two remaining properties in Guatemala operated by our local subsidiaries, Fiesta Intercontinental Guatemala and Video Suerte Mazatenango, were ordered closed due to a declaration statement made by the Deputy in charge of the Commission for Transparency in Guatemala which called into question the legitimacy of "video lottery" operations, despite the fact that we have operated "video lottery" in Guatemala for more than a decade. The Deputy's declaration resulted in inquiries into existing video lottery operations throughout the country to determine if the operations are prohibited. The Ministry of Public Defense, Office of the Prosecution (the government entity in charge), began their inquiry with our Fiesta Video Lottery operations and closed these properties pending the inquiry. On the order of the court, Fiesta Intercontinental Guatemala was re-opened. We anticipate that a hearing to reopen Video Suerte Mazatenango will occur sometime next week. The entity which holds our charter, CONFEDE, has previously been validated by the Constitutional Court to extend licenses and permits to operate video lotteries in Guatemala; therefore, this order to re-open Fiesta Intercontinental Guatemala is supported by the Constitutional Court to extend licenses and permits to operate video lotteries in Guatemala. These two facilities represent approximately 5.1 percent of the Group's gaming positions worldwide and approximately 2.3 percent of total sales.
