Thunderstone Search Appliance Rated "Great Choice" in Seybold Report

CLEVELAND, OH -- (MARKET WIRE) -- June 22, 2005 -- Thunderstone Software announced that its Search Appliance is praised for "simplicity, low cost of ownership, and extensibility" in a new independent analysis published by the Patricia Seybold Group.

The Thunderstone Search Appliance is "designed to eliminate nearly all installation and maintenance efforts, create a highly reliable and extensively tested environment shared by hundreds of customers, and keep support pricing at an absolute minimum," wrote the report's author, Susan E. Aldrich, Senior Vice President and Senior Consultant of Patricia Seybold Group. "We're impressed with the approach," she added.

The Thunderstone report is part of Patricia Seybold Group's research series about search solutions for enterprises, e-commerce, and customer service. The report uses the Group's systematic evaluation framework for enterprise search products. Thunderstone Software did not sponsor or fund the project.

The report also looks at Thunderstone's Texis software, on which the Search Appliance is based. Texis provides a suite of developer tools for custom search applications, and Search Appliance customers may optionally upgrade to Texis if and when their needs become more specialized. This upgrade path contributed to the report's praise for the Search Appliance's "extensibility."

The report notes that Thunderstone's Search Appliance "has more flexibility than the Google Appliance, which... doesn't crawl third-party web sites; doesn't support stemming and wild card search; and doesn't allow for adjustments to relevance ranking."

The author also found the Thunderstone Search Appliance a very good value. It provides "a very low-cost search solution -- low purchase price, low implementation cost, and low cost of ownership," Aldrich wrote.

U.S. government customers may purchase Search Appliances through the GSA Schedule.
