UNDERSTAFFED AND UNDER PRESSURE - More Health Care Workers NOW! Campaign Attention: City Editor, Health/Medical Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2005) - A news conference in Ottawa will release the Ontario Federation of Labour Report on the desperate state of health care workers in virtually every sector of the health care system.

The Report, Understaffed & Under Pressure: A reality check by Ontario health care workers, outlines the conditions of the exhausted workers who are trying to provide the proper care to our society's sick, injured and frail in the face of our understaffed health care system. The Report calls on the provincial government to restore and strengthen the public health care system.

Earlier this year the OFL went on a fact finding tour of 17 cities across the province and spoke with the people who deliver the care in our health care system: workers in emergency services, homecare, hospitals, long term care, retirement homes, mental health and public health. This is their Report.

In attendance at the news conference:

Sean McKenny, President, Ottawa & District Labour Council
Irene Harris, Executive Vice-President, Ontario Federation of Labour

With the release of the Report the OFL is launching a province-wide campaign to pressure the McGuinty Liberal government to hire more health care workers throughout the system.
