Investors, have a look at VIASPACE, Inc. (OTC BB: VSPC), a spin-off of the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory that transforms proven space and defense technologies into hardware and software products that solve today's complex problems. The company announced Thursday that its subsidiary, Arroyo Sciences, has licensed Spacecraft Health Inference Engine (SHINE) technology from Caltech.

VIASPACE said that SHINE, Spacecraft Health Inference Engine, is an ultra-fast rules engine originally designed for on-board monitoring, analysis and diagnosis of NASA's spacecraft and ground data systems, and intended for mission critical systems where inferencing speed, portability and reuse is of critical importance. The company said that SHINE embodies revolutionary concepts in knowledge representation and manipulation that go well beyond traditional expert systems. SHINE can process over 30 million rules per second on desktop class computer processors, as standardized benchmarking studies have shown, and delivers over 100X increase in inference speed and up to 1000X reduction in the size of the execution environment footprint over the best comparable commercial product.

Being the only known expert system that delivers applications to a target system without requiring any additional run-time environment or dynamic memory allocation, SHINE enables an entire class of embedded knowledge based applications on hand-held devices and microsystems. The company said that over the past 10 years SHINE has been successfully applied to over two dozen applications both throughout NASA and within the commercial sector including flight hardware, which has significantly impacted operations cost, reliability and safety in NASA deep space missions, including Voyager, Galileo, Magellan, and EUVE.
