CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - August 21, 2014) - ThyssenKrupp North America, Inc. today contributed $15,000 to the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute, affiliated with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.
Torsten Gessner, President and Chief Executive Officer of ThyssenKrupp North America, presented the donation to Mary J.C. Hendrix, Ph.D., President and Scientific Director for Stanley Manne Research Institute at a ceremony during an employee event for ThyssenKrupp's more than 120 Chicago-based employees.
"With this gift, ThyssenKrupp continues our support of Dr. Hendrix and her team at the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute. Supporting research which advances knowledge and furthers medical innovation and discovery is an investment in the future -- one we believe will benefit Chicago and beyond," said Torsten Gessner. "We are also inspired by the impact their research programs have and share a common drive to reduce the time to turn innovation and discovery into practical applications."
Headquartered for more than two years in Chicago, this is the second donation ThyssenKrupp has made as a community partner to the Manne Research Institute, for a total donation of $25,000.
"We are immensely grateful for this second annual contribution from ThyssenKrupp, which will support our scientific mission: to discover and develop therapies and cures for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric diseases," said Dr. Hendrix.
In addition to the financial contribution, ThyssenKrupp's regional headquarter employees demonstrated their individual support by collecting craft supplies for Lurie Children's Family Life Center. Along with this, ThyssenKrupp designed a FIFA World Cup(TM) coloring activity book to inform and engage Lurie Children's patients and their families in current events and the cultural pastime of soccer.
