Tibetan Cultural Rally at Dundas Square Toronto

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 6, 2012) - Canadian Tibetans in Ontario are going to stage a Tibetan Cultural Rally at Yonge Dundas Square, Toronto on March 10, 2012 from 12pm to 4pm in commemoration of 53rd Tibetan National Uprising Day as well as to express solidarity with ongoing struggle of human spirit against the brutal might of China in Tibet. The rally will commence from Parkdale Collegiate in Parkdale at 9.30am and will march on Queen Street and Yonge Street to reach Dundas Square at 12 PM.

This rally will be the first ever mobile exhibit of diverse Tibetan rich and unique cultural heritage in Canada. Tibetan monks will walk in special Buddhist robes and in varied tantric hats. The monks will show use of various ritual musical instruments and drums. School children will wear different and colorful dresses selected from various part of Tibet. And the elders will be in unique and exotic dresses, and accessories originating from three original and principal ethnic regions of Tibet. We are also organizing exhibitions of Buddhist Tantrayana ritual practice, Tibetan Thangka (scroll) painting, Tibetan script calligraphy, Tibetan natural herbal medicine and Tibetan Yak.

Tibetans in Tibet are making the ultimate sacrifice to seek minimum human dignity and freedom under China's rule. 26 Tibetans have burnt themselves alive in the streets of Tibet in one year so far. Three Tibetans, including a 33 year old mother of three children and middle school girl aged 19, have burnt themselves alive during the last three days. In 2008 thousands of Tibetans rose up and were killed by China in non-violent protest all over Tibet against the continued rule by China in Tibet. All these human sacrifices to seek freedom are the continuation of the will and determination of Tibetan people to free themselves when the entire nation rose against China 53 years ago on 10th March 1959.

The general public in Toronto will be able see and feel the extraordinarily unique traditional and cultural heritage of Tibetan people on March 10, 2012 at Dundas Square, Downtown Toronto.
