TicketLiquidator's 2010 MTV VMAs Recap

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - September 14, 2010) -  The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards had over 11.4 million viewers glued to their TV sets on Sunday, September 12, 2010, the most the outrageous ceremony has seen since 2002 according to MTV.com. Since airing, there has been a lot of buzz circulating about the highlights of the show. From Lady's Gaga's magically not-so-bloody meat dress, which indeed included cuts of raw beef sewn together, to Chelsea Handler's run-in with the recently rehabbed Lindsay Lohan, the show was anything but drab.

Topping the list of winners this year was Lady Gaga, who not only nabbed the most Moonmen, she guided audiences through a lesson in couture. Donning the red carpet in a late Alexander McQueen number splattered with a religious image and crowned with a Mohawk of feathers, Lady Gaga led an entourage inside where various costume changes ensued. The most notable frock? A tiny bovine dress that subsequently ruffled the feathers of PETA members.

Music legend Cher made an appearance in her classic "Turn Back Time" outfit to hand off the coveted "Video of the Year" award to Gaga who made a clean sweep of the awards ceremony with a grand total of eight wins that night. Eminem performed "Not Afraid," which he scored two awards for "Best Male Video" and "Best Hip Hop Video," before welcoming Rihanna to the stage to sing "Love the Way You Lie." The performance has largely been considered the best of the 2010 MTV VMAs. Shortly after, Eminem rushed off to his Yankee Stadium concert with Jay Z and guests Nicki Minaj, Beyonce and Kanye West among others.

Kanye West debuted his new track "Runaway" which, according to Entertainment Weekly, was an expression of self-loathing for last year's Taylor Swift Incident. Meanwhile, Swift expressed forgiveness in the form of her new track "Innocent" performed after a clip of the incident was screened. Though Swift was the reining Goddess of last year's MTV VMAs it was heartthrob Justin Bieber who won in the "Best New Artist" category. Other winners included 30 Seconds to Mars in the "Best Rock Video" category for "Kings and Queens," Jay Z and Alicia Keys in the "Best Cinematography" category for "Empire State of Mind," The Black Keys in the "Breakthrough Video Category" for "Tighten Up" and Muse in the "Best Special Effects Category" for "Uprising."

Notable red carpet appearances included will.i.am covered in black makeup, newcomer Greyson Chance and comedian Dane Cook. Stars of the big screen and TV caused quite a stir too with a toned-down version of the "Jersey Shore" cast striking a pose, former Hills star demanding poignancy and A-listers Jane Lynch and Ashley Green wearing their Sunday's best. All in all, the 2010 MTV VMAs was considered a success. Chelsea Handler showed up Lisa Lampanelli in the brashness category and congratulated the network on a successful show tweeting, "Just got word... Highest rated vma's since 2002. Good job, mtv! Good job, kiddo."
