TicketNetwork Advisory -- The Merchant of Venice, Starring Al Pacino, Opens Tuesday

VERNON, CT--(Marketwire - October 13, 2010) - After a sold-out run as part of the 2010 Shakespeare in the Park season, Al Pacino will take his role as Shylock to the Broadway stage. The Merchant of Venice starts previews on October 19 and officially opens November 7.

The play is considered to be one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays. The plot revolves around Bassanio, a young Venetian who needs money to woo the beautiful princess Portia; Antonio, a merchant in Venice and friend of Bassanio's who agrees to find the money; and Shylock (Pacino), who loans Antonio the money under certain conditions. The infamous "pound of flesh" plays a part in the loan contract, and only Portia can find a way out of it.

Due to its limited run of 78 performances and Pacino's star power, The Merchant of Venice tickets are sure to disappear quickly. The comedy will close on January 9, 2011.
