Tidal Job Scheduler Enables UConn Health Center BI Initiative

Top Hospital Ensures the Health of Its Processes With Tidal Software

PALO ALTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 21, 2006 -- Tidal Software, a leading provider of application scheduling and performance management software, today announced that the University of Connecticut Health Center, one of the nation's leading hospitals, has selected the Tidal Enterprise Scheduler to play a critical role in a long term business intelligence project that will consolidate the hospital's vast information pool and deliver consistent information to users.

"Our current environment mandates a lot of IT cycles in order to accurately report on our business," said Bruce Salisbury, assistant director of data services for the University of Connecticut Health Center. "Each department has its own data storage with its own analyst reporting on the system. So, basic processes like patient discharge data capture are interpreted and reported differently by each group. That makes it inefficient to provide consistent, accurate reports on operating results. Our data warehousing and BI initiative will solve such problems, but we determined that an enterprise scheduler was crucial to making this solution function efficiently across the whole of the hospital's system."

Salisbury and his team conducted extensive product evaluations, including proof of concept and production site visits. They selected Tidal's job scheduler because of its user-friendliness and its flexibility to easily support the range of systems, databases, and applications in their environment in addition to Informatica and SQL Server. The UCHC evaluation team also expects Tidal's rich features that simplify complex schedules and problem identification will not only save them time but also keep the production environment functioning smoothly.

"Our team has little time to spare -- if a job is down we need to know why it failed, and need that information quickly. Tidal Enterprise Scheduler gives a clear picture of what happened as well as an understanding of the underlying dependencies -- alleviating the need for constant database administrator presence," said Salisbury.

In order to ensure consistent reporting across the organization, UCHC plans to consolidate information from the disparate data systems and data storage of several departments using Informatica's data warehousing products managing the process with Tidal Enterprise Scheduler. The IT team will aggregate data from across UCHC operations, including patient systems, financial systems, legacy sources, and desktop databases and spreadsheets, while providing cross-system metadata management and reporting capabilities for monitoring and analyzing data quality, content and usage. Tidal's job scheduler will play a vital role in ensuring the precise, efficient operation of the end-to-end data aggregation process so that the information is accurate and reports reliable.

"The UCHC team has done a very thorough job at evaluating solutions that support their requirements. Given the scope of their data warehousing initiative, such diligent evaluation is crucial for long term success," said Rod Butters, Tidal Software. "We believe every IT organization should evaluate their environments and assess their requirements this thoroughly. We are pleased to have the University of Connecticut Health Center as a customer."
