The Tide Has Turned: Kalido Community Affirms Enterprise Data Governance Is the Next Big Thing

Kalido Connect 2009 Audience Validates Company's Vision and Game-Changing Innovations for Enterprise Data Governance

BURLINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - October 7, 2009) -

  • Kalido, a leading provider of information management software for enterprise data governance, today announced the successful completion of its annual Kalido Connect conference, where customers, partners and industry leaders from around the world gathered online to chart a course to true enterprise data governance.
  • Kalido outlined its vision of shared responsibility for information management as it introduced the latest version of the Kalido® Information Engine™, the first information platform to directly engage business users in data governance by providing access to and input in master data. This innovation effectively decentralizes data governance and is a significant change from conventional IT-centric thinking about data stewardship.
  • Delivered for the first time in a virtual format, Kalido Connect brought together five times more registrants than last year's conference, allowing more customers, partners and prospects to discuss best practices, learn about new product developments and share experiences and project information.
  • One Kalido customer, a $3B pharmaceutical company, realized $1.5 million in annual savings and stated that its Kalido enterprise data warehouse accommodated business change up to four times faster than its previous platform. Another customer, a multinational healthcare products and pharmaceutical manufacturer, praised Kalido's "fantastic" ability to identify and meet business requirements.
  • All Kalido Connect sessions are available on-demand for 90 days at www.kalidoconnect.com.

Conference Highlights

  • Kalido President and CEO Bill Hewitt, in his opening keynote, described how customers are using the Kalido Information Engine to address changing business requirements and be more competitive despite the global recession. He also cited examples of how a lack of data governance has a direct impact on the bottom lines of businesses around the world.
  • In conjunction with the conference, Kalido announced the latest release of the Kalido Information Engine, which provides a collaborative platform for a broad community of business and IT users. Business can now take ownership of data and participate in the governance processes, resulting in continuous improvement in data quality.
  • The conference also included an "InfoShare" customer feedback session in which customers and partners discussed and voted on the key features desired for future releases. This feedback, combined with input received from a number of other sources, has a direct impact on Kalido's product roadmap.

Program Agenda

  • The conference featured presentations from a number of Kalido customers including:
    • Pharmaceutical company Eisai Inc., which highlighted how they used Kalido to address the needs of their sales and marketing department
    • Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices EMEA, which detailed how the organization is rolling out a phased, multi-country business intelligence program
    • The Post Office, Ltd., which discussed how The Post Office is using Kalido to deliver an information platform, improve data quality and target the right information to the right people at the right time
  • Other highlights included breakout sessions where users were able to hear more on a wide range of topics from implementation strategy and new product developments to technical advice and best practices.

Bill Hewitt, president and CEO of Kalido, said:

  • "Managing data as effectively as any business process has become a top priority for CEOs around the world. Today, it's fair to say that enterprise data governance will quickly eclipse the importance of ERP systems. Kalido's top-down, business-driven approach will deliver on this vision while the ERP players continue to attempt to convince customers that a bottom-up, tools-driven approach will deliver long-term customer value."

David Banks, manager of BI data warehouse and operations of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices EMEA, during his presentation, said:

  • "The Kalido Information Engine has been fantastic; it's really helped us meet business requirements. By using the Business Modeler, we were able to talk to the business using the same language and at the right level to ensure we could capture and define business requirements."

Mike Stanton, director of BI and data warehousing at Eisai, in his presentation, said:

  • "The sales and marketing department challenged us to build a robust, flexible business intelligence infrastructure that wouldn't take two years to build and be obsolete by the time it was complete. Our answer to them was Kalido. For example, we were able to reflect a sales force realignment within three months, when it previously would have taken us nine to 12 months. Overall, with Kalido, we're realizing cost savings of 1.5 million dollars every year, thereby showing our management team not just the soft value, but the hard, tangible savings as well."

Angie Cooke, senior business intelligence analyst at ERICO, said:

  • "We usually send a couple people to Kalido Connect, but because we didn't need to travel this year, we were able to 'send' five team members. As a result, we were able to network with a much larger group of other customers and experts, as well as attend multiple breakout sessions to learn best practices. It's been a great use of time and resources!"
