Tideway Systems Makes Service Management for Virtualized Application Infrastructure Simple

Tideway Joins VMware's Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) Program

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - July 9, 2007) - Tideway Systems, the independent leader in IT service configuration management solutions for enterprises, today announced it has joined VMware's Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. As a formal member of the program, Tideway will provide IT organizations with an integrated solution that maps business applications to both virtual and physical application infrastructure. Uniquely, Foundation has the ability to automatically map dependencies between VMware hosts and physical hosts.

Global law firm, Linklaters, has adopted virtualization using VMware Infrastructure 3 and is using Tideway Foundation™ to accurately map the virtual infrastructure and give users a clear picture of the dependencies. "In November of 2004, we designed and began implementing a virtualization strategy to make our data center and computing environment more efficient, less expensive and easier to keep track of," said Simon Gilhooly, Head of Global Technical Systems at Linklaters. "Working with VMware, we switched over our 450 production physical servers to 40 VM host servers saving us 80% of the physical space previously used. We utilize Tideway Foundation, as part of our Configuration Management initiative, to quickly identify our virtualized systems and the hosts as well as which services are being provided by each virtualized system."

Tideway Foundation specifically maps business services running on virtualized hosts to the physical server on which it exists and lastly down to the network egress point for that service. All modeling of VMware Infrastructure 3 is done dynamically as part of the core Foundation system. Updates or changes to VMware services or products are updated by Tideway and provided to customers as part of the Tideway Knowledge Network (TKN), which allows application vendors to submit up-to-date fingerprints and other information.

"When working with virtualized environments, understanding the dependencies between business services, virtualization and the underlying infrastructure becomes critical," said Donald Klein, VP of Alliances for Tideway Systems. "We've modeled VMware Infrastructure 3 specifically, giving us a deep understanding of both virtual hosts and virtual machines. The strength of Foundation lies in its dependency mapping as it has the unique ability to identify relationships between discrete infrastructure components and the business applications that depend on them."

The VMware TAP Program enables partners, regardless of specialty or size, to sell their solutions in a virtual environment by providing a comprehensive program with marketing and technical benefits. VMware teams with industry-leading software companies to jointly develop solution stacks that provide value and cost savings to customers.

Using an agentless approach, Foundation automatically models an enterprise's distributed business applications and maps them to their supporting infrastructure, serving as a cornerstone of integrated enterprise systems management solutions and for implementing IT best practices. Sophisticated browser-based reporting and visualization as well as integration capabilities make this IT intelligence available in an actionable form right at the point of decision or analysis and support Tideway's mission to make IT service management As Simple As Search™.
