Tigard, Oregon Selects Accela Automation to Make Public Services More Accessible

Upgrade to Web-Based Application Positions City to Deliver on "Vision of Tomorrow" Objectives

TIGARD, OR--(Marketwire - November 19, 2007) - Tigard, Oregon has selected Accela Automation® from Accela, Inc. to streamline its land use processes and improve the quality of service it provides. Community Development staff, Tigard citizens, and the local development community will be able to utilize the more user-friendly, easily accessible system to conduct business via the Internet.

"We believe safe, dynamic communities are created through the efforts of an enabled and engaged public, and Accela Automation will provide the tools to support those goals in Tigard," said Tigard Building Official Brian Blalock. "By making information and services available via the Internet, we can step up our processes to keep pace with our citizens' expectations."

Commitment to coordinated, efficient, and accessible public services is a key component of the city's "Vision for Tomorrow" community vision statement that is soon to be rolled into the Tigard Comprehensive Plan. Tigard will transition from a classic Accela product to the Web-based relational database environment of Accela Automation to help it manage more than 5,000 annual permits related to building, planning, code enforcement, and engineering.

Additional Accela applications will enhance the functionality of Accela Automation solutions to facilitate sharing of GIS information from a centralized database and provide residents with the ability to apply for and obtain permits online:

Accela GIS™ seamlessly integrates with Accela Automation to provide powerful real-time visual analysis to enhance land use, zoning, and infrastructure data. It allows creation of multiple map layers, automated map analysis, parcel and asset inventory management, direct editing of GIS data or files, and auto-distribution of information to mailing lists. It is built on the ArcIMS™ platform by ESRI®.

Accela Citizen Access™ provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to agency permit and land management activities. Online permit applications can be configured to allow citizens and businesses access to apply and pay for permits, schedule inspections, check the status of a permit or inspection, or print an approved permit directly from the Internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Tigard also plans to purchase Accela's mobile solution, Accela Wireless™, next summer to support its field staff in working more efficiently in conducting inspections.

"Accela congratulates Tigard for its leadership role in the state of Oregon for making the decision to move to Web-based technology to better serve its citizens," said Maury Blackman, Accela president and CEO. "Of our many customers in the state, Tigard is the first to demonstrate its innovation and versatility in delivering customer service through the best technology available."
