Tilera Announces Wind River's VxWorks Now Supports TILE Architecture

Integration of VxWorks and Tilera's TILE Processors Enables High Performance-per-Watt Solutions for Defense, Telecommunication, Networking Infrastructure

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwire - October 5, 2010) - Tilera® Corporation, the leader in many-core general purpose microprocessors, today announced that its TILEPro family of many-core processors is now supported by Wind River's VxWorks® 6.8 operating system, the embedded industry's leading real-time operating system (RTOS). This development enables customers to easily integrate VxWorks applications into TILEPro processor architectures.

The TILEPro family of processors consists of the TILEPro36™ and the TILEPro64™ that deliver the highest compute performance to a wide range of embedded applications. These devices feature either 36 or 64 identical processor cores (tiles) interconnected with Tilera's iMesh™ on-chip network. Each tile is a complete, full-featured processor as well as an L1 and L2 cache and a non-blocking switch that connects the tiles into the mesh. In addition, Tilera's configurable "hardwalling" technology allows the developer to divide the TILEPro processor array into separate clusters to enable application and network partitioning at the core level. These devices address the demanding computing needs of high-end multimedia, advanced networking, and wireless infrastructure systems.
