Tim James Named Manager, Northern California Local Government Relations

SACRAMENTO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 17, 2005 -- Timothy James has been named Manager of Northern California Local Government Relations for the California Grocers Association.

In this newly created position, James will advocate for CGA members before local elected and regulatory officials throughout Northern California.

CGA is the only grocery association offering statewide local representation, said CGA President Peter Larkin. "With important issues popping up throughout the state that impact the bottom line, it became essential that CGA expand its local government staff.

"For more than 107 years, it has been CGA's mission to advocate for the California grocery industry," Larkin said. "CGA has a long history of effective state and local government relations. The addition of Tim makes it even stronger."

Prior to joining CGA, James was Chief of Staff to former Sacramento County Supervisor Roger Niello. He has served as Government Relations Manager for the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Legislative Analyst and Grassroots Coordinator for the California Trucking Association.

"Because of his experience at the local level, Tim is the perfect fit for the Association," said Larkin. "His addition to CGA's already strong local government program assures CGA members, particularly those operating in Northern California, effective representation."

James joins CGA Local Government Director Gilbert Canizales, located in CGA's Long Beach satellite office, to form the nucleus of CGA's local government relations program. James will be work from CGA's Sacramento office. Both report to CGA Vice President of Government Relations Paul A. Smith.

The California Grocers Association is a non-profit, statewide trade association representing the food industry since 1898.
