Time for Mayor Kwame to Follow Gov. Eliot!

Rev. Peterson Says Black Americans Deserve Moral Leaders Too

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - March 13, 2008) - Disgraced New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was forced to step down after his involvement with a prostitution ring. There's another sex and corruption scandal, involving Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his Chief-of-Staff, Christine Beatty, which is now getting national scrutiny. Kilpatrick and Beatty are under criminal investigation and could be charged with perjury. The two denied a physical relationship, but thousands of text messages retrieved from their city issued phones contradict their statements. While protestors outside called for his resignation, the mayor publicly chastised his critics during the State of the City Address Tuesday. Kilpatrick claimed he's the victim of racial slurs, death threats and used the N-word. Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, Founder and President of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, is calling Kilpatrick's comments a disgraceful attempt to silence his white critics and deflect attention away from his serious legal problems.

"Kwame Kilaptrick is playing the victim just like the incompetent Mayor Ray Nagin. His use of the race card is insulting to the residents of Detroit," said Rev. Peterson. "If Kilpatrick has a shred of decency he would resign now! Governor Spitzer was forced to resign over his sex scandal -- the outcome should be the same for Kilpatrick. We can no longer set a high standard of conduct for white elected officials and then lower the bar for blacks."

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox says he was shocked by Kilpatrick's televised use of the N-word and said he's a race-baiter who's unfit for office. Cox also stated that the mayor has clearly perjured himself. Detroit has a fifteen percent unemployment rate. Homicide rates are equal to Los Angeles, which has four times its population. And Forbes put the Motor City at the top of its list of America's Most Miserable Cities.

"My organization BOND has embarked on a 'Moral Reconstruction Campaign,' which involves going city to city holding these corrupt liberal black leaders' feet to the fire. These black officials can no longer get away with abusing the public trust and pulling the race card to avoid accountability," said Rev. Peterson.
