Tips to Prevent and Beat the Flu: North Ohio Heart Releases Free Video

CLEVELAND, OH--(Marketwire - Jan 11, 2013) -  To best assist those living in Cleveland and its surrounding areas through the most severe flu season in years, North Ohio Heart (NOH) and Ohio Medical Group (OMG) released a flu prevention educational video. The video, available on North Ohio Heart's YouTube channel, features Dr. James Kelly Jr., a family physician at OMG's Olmsted Falls office.

In the video, viewers will discover:

  • Prevention tips to minimize your chances of contracting the flu
  • Common flu symptoms
  • What to do if you've contracted the flu
  • How flu germs are spread
  • How long adults and children are contagious for
  • Who is likely to contract the flu

Flu season in the United States occurs throughout the fall and winter with activity usually peaking in January or February. This year, cases of flu in the U.S. began popping up as early as September, and according to google.org Flu Trends, an analytical experiment by the non-profit sector that tracks cases of flu, flu-based searches have alarmingly increased since November, indicating we're in the midst of the worst flu season since 2004. Ohio is one of 41 states reporting high influenza-like-illness activity, according to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC).

NOH & OMG urges all adults and children aged six months and older to get flu vaccinations if they have not done so already. "Getting the vaccine after the start of the flu season is better than going without it," wrote NOH & OMG in a recent post on its blog. Those already experiencing symptoms of the flu such as fever, body aches and coughing should seek medical attention immediately.
