tiwi Tells Teens to Slow Down

inthinc, Developer of Driving Safety Technology, Reminds Drivers to Follow the Speed Limit as Part of National Teen Driver Safety Week

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - October 21, 2010) -  "Speeding violation. Reduce speed immediately." That's what teen drivers using tiwi hear when they exceed the posted speed limit to help them drive more safely. But tiwi also wants to remind everyone to slow down and avoid distracted driving as part of National Teen Driver Safety Week.

The speeding alerts are just one of the unique features of the tiwi driving safety solution from inthinc. tiwi mentors teen drivers in real-time through a device installed in their cars -- providing in-vehicle, verbal feedback to the driver when they are speeding, not wearing their seatbelt or driving aggressively.

tiwi is programmed with speed limits so it knows how fast your teen should be going, and it uses GPS technology to know how fast the vehicle actually is going. If the vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit, including any buffer allowed by parents, the verbal alert is sounded in the vehicle telling the driver to slow down. If the driver continues to speed, a notification via phone, text or email is sent to the parents to notify them of the violation in real time.

"Because we maintain a proprietary database of posted speed limits across the United States, the tiwi system knows the maximum speed a vehicle should be traveling in almost any location," said Todd W. Follmer, CEO of inthinc Technology Solutions. "Other speeding notification technologies have a single speeding threshold that may work at maximum freeway speeds but are useless in places like city streets and school zones. In contrast, tiwi has been proven effective at reducing speeding violations by almost 90 percent."

An independent study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) on teen driving safety found that equipping the cars teens drive with in-vehicle monitoring devices can significantly reduce instances of excessive speeding as well as other driving risks. tiwi is the only technology that meets all the criteria outlined in the report for encouraging and instilling positive driving behavior in teens.
