Today-Our Place Society Community Thanksgiving Meal

Over 1000 Thanksgiving Meals to be Served to Greater Victoria's Homeless and Most Vulnerable Citizens

VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2012) - The Our Place Society (OPS) dining room will be a flurry of activity today as many of Victoria's homeless and most vulnerable will be treated to a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Our Place expects to serve over 1000 people throughout the day. Many of our local politicians will be on hand to serve this year's Community Thanksgiving Meal, as well as over 30 volunteers.

"Thanksgiving is a special time to be grateful and be with loved ones. For many of the people we welcome, we're the closest family they have," said Don Evans, Executive Director of OPS. "We want everyone to feel a sense of belonging and enjoy a great meal."

The meal will consist of 1000 lbs of turkey, 500 lbs of potatoes, 250 lbs of stuffing, 200 lbs of vegetables, 25 gallons of gravy, 55 lbs of cranberry sauce, 125 pies and 1500 cups of coffee.

Our Place Society is a community centre serving the poor, disabled, and homeless of Greater Victoria. At its location on Pandora Avenue it serves up to 1,500 meals per day. OPS offers a place for people to shower, get clean clothing, participate in community programming, as well as gather and share a story with friends in a place of belonging. OPS has forty-five transitional housing units for the hardest to house in our region.
