Todd C. Cozzens, Healthcare Veteran and Sequoia Capital Senior Advisor, Named to Healthcare Quality Catalyst's Board of Directors

SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwire - Sep 6, 2012) -  Today, Healthcare Quality Catalyst (Catalyst) named Todd C. Cozzens to its Board of Directors. As a board member and senior advisor to Catalyst, Cozzens brings more than 25 years in leadership roles across the healthcare technology and information systems industries including most recently as CEO of the Accountable Care Solutions group of Optum and as the CEO of Picis prior to its acquisition by United Health in 2010. Cozzens will provide strategic guidance and valuable industry insights to Catalyst as it continues along its rapid trajectory of expansion.

"We are honored to have someone with Todd's credibility and experience providing insight to manage our ambitious growth agenda," said David A. Burton, MD, CEO of Catalyst. "Todd has been helping to shape the healthcare industry for a very long time -- focusing on strategic opportunities for both small and large organizations. As a former company founder orchestrating Picis' rapid growth, he can relate to the beginnings of Catalyst and to our future direction. We appreciate the opportunity to extend and deepen our relationship with Sequoia Capital through Todd's involvement. We are thrilled that he accepted our invitation to join our board."

As a co-founder and CEO of Picis, it was Cozzens' original strategic vision of information systems for the high-acuity care areas of hospitals that drove the company to a 50 percent annual growth rate, servicing more than 2,100 hospital clients over a ten-year span. In 2005, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young and in 2009 received the Distinguished Alumni Entrepreneurship Award from Marquette University.

"The ever-increasing costs of healthcare are substantially compromising our nation's economic growth," said Cozzens. "The leadership team at Catalyst realizes that to fix healthcare at a fundamental level, healthcare providers must deeply understand where waste exists and have the tools and capabilities to systematically reduce that waste. Catalyst provides a proven solution that produces that level of insight for today's health systems. Catalyst does this by delivering a data warehouse solution designed to not only quantify and prioritize waste reduction, but to extract that waste into real dollars saved. I am proud to serve as an advisor to Catalyst as they continue to lead this crucial sector for healthcare."

Prior to Picis, Cozzens served as the president of a division of Marquette Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) and held several other senior management positions, including vice president of sales, from 1983 to 1995. Cozzens is a graduate of Marquette University and the Harvard Business School Executive Program for Management Development. He was a four-time member of the U.S. Olympic Sailing Team from 1980 to 1992.
