Top 5 Wedding Gifts

LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 2, 2012) - Many people often look forward to attending a wedding - even in the winter months. However, a growing number of people are often stuck for what gift to present to the new couple. Asda Money reveals the top five wedding gifts that will appeal to a number of different newlyweds.

Recent research shows that wedding gifts cost Britons an extra £129 million per year*. Wedding guests spend an average of £51 on gifts for the happy couple. Despite the economic downturn, the amount that people are spending on wedding gifts has increased from £47 in 2011 to £51 this year.

Those aged between 18 and 24 years are prepared to spend more, splashing out an average of £63 on each gift. Those aged between 55 and 64 are only willing to spend an average of £46 per gift.

Whatever your budget is, here are the top five fail-proof wedding gifts:

  1. Money

One item that might not be romantic but is certainly considered practical as a wedding gift is money. During these times of austerity, a number of couples are saving for their first home or would wish to spend the money on their honeymoon.

  1. Champagne flutes

No wedding gift list would be complete without a pair of special champagne flutes. It's a luxury item which many couples might not have the cash flow for and may wish to own. Crystal glassware and decanters are also likely to be gratefully received.

  1. Personalised items

Peronalised items could make an ideal gift to celebrate the coming together of two people. It could make a nice keepsake for many years to come. A number of items can be personalised, from art canvases to alcoholic bottles.

  1. Wish list

A number of couples now create wish lists in certain department stores which can involve products within the store or experiences. For example, a couple would list all the items that they might want or need for either their home or just for their fancy, others might list experiences such as a romantic meal and other treats for their friends and family to buy.

  1. Experiences

A number of couples, who are busy planning and paying for a wedding, might enjoy an exciting experience for their honeymoon as a fun introduction into married life. This could range from an exhilarating sky diving trip or a relaxing 'his & hers' spa day.
