Top Toys and Children's Books Announced by the Canadian Toy Testing Council

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 5, 2013) - Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the Canadian Toy Testing Council (CTTC) today presented this year's highly anticipated TOY REPORT 2014 featuring this year's 'hot' new toys and children's books!

TOY REPORT 2014 helps Canadian families make smart toy and book purchases. The toys and books tested are the newest available in the Canadian market.

"With over 60 years of independent toy testing, the CTTC is experienced at identifying the best toys and children's books using feedback from the experts - children themselves." says Angela Digout Erhardt, Chair of the CTTC Board of Directors. "This year's award winners have great play value and broad appeal."

In addition to being provided with a rating from one to three stars, the best toys receive CTTC's top awards: Best Bets and Children's Choice Awards. Best Bets are toys that provide a real WOW. Children's Choice award winners are the ten top toys of the year as chosen by the most important raters - children. To view the CTTC toy experts' picks for toys and books, visit us at

The CTTC takes testing and play seriously. Approximately 200 Canadian families tested over four hundred toys - from traditional board games to battery-operated and electronic play toys - to determine which ones stand up to the test of safety, durability, design, function, and play value.

Toys are tested by children in the most rigorous testing environment available - their homes - for a 6 to 8 week period. Since testing takes place over several weeks, testers are able to provide an accurate reading of potential play value, how well a toy functions, how it stands up to the wear and tear of normal play and just how much fun it delivers.

"There are so many toys and books on the market. Choosing the best for my children's interests and their development is difficult. The annual Toy Report continues to be -the must have - guide for parents and gift givers to obtain objective reviews and recommendations in order make informed toy purchases," says CTTC Executive Director and mom of three children, Liliane Benoît.
