Top Wisconsin Law Firm Secures Corporate Information With Fortinet Network Security Solution

Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. Helps to Protect Millions of Confidential Documents With Fortinet

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - May 19, 2008) - Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., one of Wisconsin's top law firms, has deployed Fortinet FortiGate™ multi-threat security appliances to help secure the network at its Milwaukee headquarters, three remote offices and to provide secure virtual private network (VPN) access for remote employees.

JSO Technology LLC, a value-added reseller and consulting firm focused on providing best-of-breed data security, network infrastructure and network operating systems/application solutions and services, worked closely with Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek to find a network security solution that would address three needs: provide Web content filtering protection; enable VPN functionality without having to pay a per-license fee; and work seamlessly with its new MPLS network.

Previously using Cisco for its VPN solution, the law office IT staff quickly realized the expense in having to license each VPN connection. In addition, Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek was using a Juniper Networks intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) solution but found it difficult to manage.

"We didn't realize until after our Fortinet deployment how vulnerable we previously were to malicious Internet attacks," said Alan Ciochon, director of information technology at Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. "Fortinet has allowed us to view what is attempting to traverse our network and see firsthand what the FortiGates appliances are blocking."

Located at the Milwaukee headquarter office is the FortiGate-500A appliance, which is being used to help provide a VPN for remote users connecting to the network from their homes. In addition, intrusion prevention (IPS) and Web content filtering protection is deployed for the employees accessing critical documents such as financial data, administrative forms and case histories. A FortiAnalyzer™-100 central management solution is also located at headquarters to provide centralized granular reporting and analysis of network usage to the IT staff.

The Madison, Wis. office has a FortiGate-200A network security appliance deployed while the Washington, D.C. and Manitowoc, Wis., offices have FortiGate-60s deployed to help provide firewall, VPN, IPS and Web content filtering.

"Law firms such as Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek have millions of confidential documents that need to be protected," said Karl Soderlund, vice president of Americas sales and business development for Fortinet. "Fortinet's depth of products allows companies of all sizes to easily protect network resources all within an integrated, scalable multi-threat security solution."

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications and services such as anti-virus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ Network, which provides continuous updates that help ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic -- around the clock and around the world.
