CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 15, 2006) - Torch River Resources (TSX VENTURE:TCR) (Torch) is pleased to announce results from its 2006 field program which has commenced on its Red Bird Property. Results from geological mapping and soil sampling have outlined a new extension of molybdenum mineralization which lies to the west of the Main Zone of the Red Bird porphyry deposit. The Mo (Cu-Ag) bearing porphyry deposit has a history of development work that includes 131 drill holes by Phelps Dodge (Ashfork) and Craigmont (Placer Dome) from 1964 to 1980. The 2006 program of exploration intends to outline extensions of known mineral zones as well as exploring new areas. Diamond drilling to date has focused on the Main Zone (north area) and the SE Zones (south area). At present, the 2006 diamond drill program results are not available because the core is being logged, sawn in half and shipped to Vancouver for analysis. Results from 2006 drilling will be reported as assays become available.

A program of soil sampling by Andris Kikauka, P.Geo., on behalf of Torch River was carried out in July 2006. This fieldwork covered a 500 X 500 meter area located immediately west of the quartz monzonite contact, and due west of the Main Zone (see the Program Progress maps on the Torch web-site www.torchriver.ca ). A total of 55 soil samples were taken along 300 to 500 meter long north-south oriented grid lines spaced 100 meters apart and soil sampled at 50 meter intervals. A total of 15 of these soil samples listed below, have outlined significant Mo-Cu-Ag values:

Note: In these tables ppm is "parts per million" and for example 1490 ppm converts to .1490 %.

This Mo-Cu-Ag bearing anomaly occurs roughly along an east-west trend 100 X 500 meters in an area which does not have any historic drilling. In addition to soil samples a total of 7 rock chip samples were also taken in this area west of the Red Bird Main Zone. Significant Mo-Cu-Ag-Au-Pb-Zn-As-Sb values were obtained from geochemical analysis from 5 out of 7 rock chip samples taken by Andris Kikauka, P.Geo., which are listed in the following table:

In addition to soil and rock chip sampling, a total of 3 silt samples were taken by Andris Kikauka, P. Geo., from the active channel of several small creek gullies located 1-2 km west of Red Bird quartz monzonite contact. Significant geochemical Mo-Cu-Ag-Au-Pb-Zn-As-Sb values were obtained in all three stream sediment silt samples as follows:

Fieldwork mapping, soil, silt and rock chip sampling carried out west of the Red Bird Main Zone contact suggest further follow-up exploration, such as geophysical and diamond drilling is warranted.
