Toronto Hydro Continues With Power Restoration-Update

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 4, 2007) - Toronto Hydro crews have worked all night and will continue with power restoration efforts throughout Sunday.

The remaining service calls are those related to wires-down and tree damage affecting small numbers of customers, or single buildings. Because of the volume and nature of these outages, restoration takes longer as crews work first on clean up and then repairs. In many areas access to hydro equipment has been difficult, such as heavily treed neighbourhoods with rear lot electricity distribution systems. This is slowing down efforts although we are making steady progress.

Toronto Hydro reiterates this safety warning: Stay clear of low-hanging and downed power lines or damaged utility poles. Report them as soon as possible at 416-542-8000.

Other safety tips:

- Never use a gas stove as a room heater, and don't barbecue inside the garage. If a fireplace or kerosene space heater is used, open a window for ventilation.

- If using candles, never leave them unattended.

- To prevent pipes from freezing, trickle water from the furthest fixture from the water meter (open both hot and cold taps) and periodically let water trickle from other fixtures.
