Toronto Joins "Global Work Party" to Solve the Climate Crisis

Over 180 Countries Join 10/10/10: a Day of Practical Climate Action

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2010) - From the Lombard Insurance building on Adelaide St. W., to the roof of the president's house in the Maldive Islands, people from 183 nations will join for the largest day of carbon-cutting the planet has ever seen.

"10-10-10 is a day that the world can put aside its differences and come together to do whatever is needed to prevent runaway climate change," said Franny Armstrong, founder of the 10:10 campaign. Here in Toronto, Lombard Insurance will host twenty-five children, ages 13-15, from DareArts (a foundation that empowers at-risk children through a five-year arts program). The kids will display their own, individually designed organic t-shirts, which they will create to promote the Global Climate Awareness movement (www.350.org). Employees from Lombard Insurance made personal donations towards the purchase of the t-shirts in support of the "Global Work Party" to solve the Climate Crisis. These same children will wear their t-shirts on 10/10/10 and travel to the Lombard office to continue their day spreading the Climate Crisis message to their friends, their families, their schools, and their communities.

"This one day is a massive opportunity to raise awareness of global climate concerns - and to celebrate climate solutions at the local level. For Lombard, it's also an excellent opportunity to involve and educate children who will be our leaders of tomorrow", says Bill Dunlop, Senior Vice President General Counsel & Human Resources.

Armstrong said many organizers pointed to the brutal weather of the past summer as motivation for their actions. "If you're living in Pakistan, or you're watching the flooding on the television, you understand that we've got to change quickly," she said. "It's the message we tried to spread in our film 'The Age of Stupid,' and today it's a message that people across the world are echoing."
