Toronto Transit Commission: Motor Failure Closes Dupont Station for One Hour

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 1, 2006) - Due to a motor failure of a subway train entering Dupont Station today, passengers were evacuated and the line was closed from St. George Station to St. Clair West Station. The cover of the motor on one subway car blew off contacting the cover on the power rail and the power rail, creating an electrical arc and smoke.

All Emergency Services were called and 10 people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. In total 13 shuttle buses were in service.

Service was restored at 10:28 a.m., one hour after the initial incident.
