TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 27, 2007) - The Toronto Transit Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Chief General Manager, Mr. Gary Webster. Mr. Webster was selected after an extensive international search.
Mr. Webster brings more than 32 years of experience in the public transit/rail industry to this role as well as extensive management and leadership experience.
Mr. Webster's major responsibilities will include leadership of the organization through the development and implementation of the Toronto Transit City - Light Rail Plan, announced earlier this year. This project will add 120 km of fully-accessible, environmentally-friendly light rail lines to the City of Toronto.
The TTC has the second highest ridership per capita in Canada and United States. It will carry about 454 million riders in 2007.
TTC Chair Adam Giambrone said on behalf of the Commission, "Congratulations to Mr. Webster on his appointment. This is an exciting time for transit in Toronto, and we are eager to work with Mr. Webster on making the TTC a world leader in transit service."
